We as councillors have a privileged role in representing the towns and communities of Kirklees. I am proud that together, both members and officers are determined to ensure that we promote the role of our community leaders to ensure we are inclusive, supportive and can maximise the potential contribution of each individual.

This will be one of the most comprehensive examination and strengthening of the role of the frontline councillor, along with strongly defined place-shaping initiatives, in the country.
Kirklees is already acknowledged as being innovative and cutting edge in terms of councillor development.
The work in Kirklees incorporates:
- For candidates: understanding the barriers to becoming a councillor
- For members: improving support to elected members
- For residents: better communication, information and intelligence to ward councillors
- For employers: understanding and valuing the role of councillor
- For officers: working more effectively with councillors
